A man has shown online his interesting collection of the items that he makes sure to take from every flight he is on.
Gabriel K, who is from Lithuania and lives in Colorado, started collecting sugar packets on his flights by accident, but it quickly turned into a hobby.
“I came home after a flight from Frankfurt to Denver on Lufthansa and found two sugar packets in my hoodie pocket, and after that I started collecting them,” he told Newsweek.
In a Reddit post, which has gone viral with over 28,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments, Gabriel shared an image of the packets taken from flights. The frequent flyer shows over 100 sugar packets taken from different flights, all laid out to display the variety of airlines they have come from.
Among the airline logos seen on the sugar packets are Delta, United Airlines, Air Baltic, Wizz Air, American Airlines, Air France, British Eagle, Estonian Air and South African Airways, to name a few.
He told Newsweek: “Whenever I travel, I love collecting souvenirs, and I’ve tried collecting airsickness bags, boarding passes, and in-flight safety cards, but the sugar packets have been the most satisfying.”
“In the past year, I’ve been browsing eBay and online auction sights to pick up packets that I could never get myself,” he said.
He wrote in the post’s comments section: “If anyone has any sugar packets they would like to sell or donate to my collection please DM me.”
Gabriel is among the people who fly frequently throughout the year. International air travel has reached new levels of popularity. In 2024, over 38 million flights were taken worldwide, according to Statista. That is up from 36 million in 2023 and almost ties pre-pandemic travel, when 38.9 million flights were taken worldwide in 2019.
Reddit users seemed to be intrigued by Gabriel’s unique choice of collectible.
“This is the best thing I have seen today,” said u/PanCreper1, while u/DeanAngelo03 quipped: “It’s pretty sweet.”
“That’s pretty cool. Get a corkboard or something with glass cover so it can be on a wall?” suggested u/remuspilot.
Gabriel replied: “I’ve thought about it, I don’t have the wall space at the moment so I just keep them in shoebox.”
“The best (only) sugar packet collection I have ever seen,” said u/dipfearya.
